BERHAMPUR LAWYERS TO INTENSIFY STIR FOR HIGH COURT BENCH An emergency meeting of the steering committee of the Ganjam Bar Association was held on Tuesday afternoon here to chalk out a strategy for spearheading an agitation to press for establishment of a permanent bench of the Odisha High Court for south Odisha at Brahmapur. According to information available, the steering committee constituted four small core groups taking senior members of the bar to contact with the members of the 15 bar associations functioning in undivided Ganjam and Gajapati districts and appeal them to attend in large number in the next meeting of the committee scheduled to be held on September 28 at Brahmapur. According to the decision of the steering committee, Brahmapur Bar Association president Kapileswar Pattnaik will visit Purushottampur, Chatrapur, Khallikote and Kodala and meet the members of the local bars, while senior advocate Sisir Padhi has been asked to discuss with the members of the Bhanjanagar, Aska, Buguda, and Hinjili bar associations. Similarly, senior lawyer of the Ganjam Bar Association Bhagaban Sahu has been entrusted to visit Paralakhemundi, R.Udayagiri, and Mohana with the same purpose. Ganjam Bar Association vice president KM Panigrahi will visit Digapahandi and Patrapur to elicit the opinion of the members of the respective bar associations on the issue, sources said. While the State Government has decided to recommend the Centre for establishment of a permanent bench of the Odisha High Court for western Odisha at Sambalpur, the legitimate right and need of the people of south Odisha is being deliberately ignored, said a member of the steering committee.
