BETHEL ISLAND: 2 Days until the 50s BASH. . .It always makes me laugh when people make the statement that we are just getting started on the BASH around June. Each year, we begin working on the next years BASH right after the BASH ends. Personally I sent 200 letters to both Vendors and Car/ Motorcycles applicants beginning the first of the year.~~ Your Island has a fantastic group of volunteers that is making this event come to life. Mark Whitlock stepped up to acquire all the forms that the county requests. This year being more than ever before. He also has solely dealt with acquiring the Food Vendors health requirements needed from the county. Thank you Mark.~~ We have 4 great Food Vendors. We would of had more, but unfortunately the additional vendors did not respond in time with the deadline the county gives us. Rick Bower, one busy man who always comes through to make sure the event is provided with the needed trash cans, and port-a-pottys. Plus sets up the cones on our streets, and makes sure that the necessary forms are filed with the county. Rick also helps to get the actual race of the Rubber Duckys organized. Thank you Rick. Go Bears !!! Dori Anderson, what a woman. President of the Chamber. There to oversee every aspect of the event. She solely took on all aspects of the publicity needed for the event. Not an easy task, but she made sure that no stone was left untouched when it came to making everyone know of our event. From fliers, banners, e-mailing so many sites, doing interviews with newspapers, and on and on. Thank you Dori, we could not of done this event without your wisdom and dedication. Jessica Descovich, how would we ever of gotten my dream of a kidz zone off the ground without you? You are amazing. Not only does Jessica provide FUN for the BASH, she creates events all year long for the Island kids. Thank you Jessica. Christina Savatri could not wait to be part of this years BASH. She took on being the Chairman of the Rubber Ducky sales. This is a time consuming task of delivering the Duckys around to Island Business and continually checking to see how sales are going, and seeing if they need more ducks. Then on Sunday going around to pick up the Duckys at all the locations in time for the race. Thank you Christina. Kaye Fernandes, our current Queen accepted the task of acquiring canidates for Queen. We will miss seeing your smiling face & crown at Island events. Remember once a Queen, always a Queen. Thank you Kaye. Carol Renaud took on being the Chairman of the Golf Cart Parade. This year I added on bicycles so we could have another event for the kids. The theme of course is the 50s, but any type of creativeness is accepted. We just want everyone to have FUN. Thank you Carol. Colleen Coleman and Julie Petrosh are co-chairmans for the Dog Show. I never get to attend this event that kicks off the BASH, but I do love seeing the dogs walking thru the BASH with all their ribbons on.~~ This year my Lil Lucy Lu is going to make her first showing. Excited. Thank you gals for your continual dedication to this event. Chuck Quick, Ron Doolittle, and our local Mayhems are chairing the Motorcycle Show. Excited that their creative minds have come up with some Slow Ride Shows for Sunday. Thank you guys. Hal Hutchens & Dori Anderson are co-chairing the Car Show Event. Like they did not have enough to do already. Thank you guys. Bethel Island Lions Club has their greatly anticipated Catfish Races. Always a fun time for young and old. I remember last year watching Jim Frazier having fun at this event. Thanks fellow Lions. Thank you to our local eateries Island Joes, Isle Bonita, La Villa, Rusty Porthole and Tugs for assisting in feeding the people for this event. I have no information on what any of these locations are doing, but I am sure that they are ready to celebrate the BASH event. Thanks veryone. Jim Montgomery, our Chamber Photographer, will be out capturing the event. Looking forward to seeing pictures after the event. I feel like I may be missing someone, if so, let me know. Oh yes, the million dollar question. . .we have approximately 35 vendors. So, I feel that is great. We still have room for more in case there is anyone out there that still wishes to sell this weekend. Hope to see you at this event for the Island, by the Island.
