BETTER TOGETHER This is the campaign slogan of the Scots who want their nation to remain with the Commonwealth, the United Kingdom. The problem is that they represent only 49% of the population. What should strike us Filipinos is the process by which the Scots capture the sentiment of the majority of their number, in deciding a question of national importance such as Bangsamoro. Should Bikolanos decide to secede from the Philippines, is the issue to be determined solely by Bikolanos? Of course, not. How come our peace panel have recommended to conduct referendum affecting Bangsamoro, only among the residents of that enclave? The emergence of the Muslim caliphate in the Middle East now deserves fullest attention, with a hundred Filipinos supposedly undergoing training by ISIS. A better national policy perhaps should be the suppression of possible seeds of misunderstanding, instead of putting the issue ahead of time.
