BETWEEN OHAKIM AND UCHE ONYEAGUOCHA. After drinking a mixture of Aspirin, Para and Codin ( APC ), by application of Uches appointment as an Aide to Imo Governor, his head become swollen, he then speaks reckless, mouthy and licentious. By Dr Chuks Osuji (Oon) On Thursday, 17th May 2014, the inhabitants of Owerri, woke up to miserable news of that the building at the Prefab Area of Owerri went ablaze in the wee hours of the day. According to some eye witness accounts including the vivid reports from several Owerri based newspaper, it appeared that some invaders carefully removed a portion of the ceiling in other to have a better access to throw in some fire igniting materials or a poorly made device which could start fire once it touched any soft materials in the parlour. As the news spread that morning, the entire Prefab Area of Aladinma was overtaken by sympathisers and curious onlookers. As they came in their numbers, tongues began to wage as to the main cause of the fire which produced a heavy smoke and which equally had consumed almost everything in the House. Although some believed that judging from the area covered by the inferno, the culprits must have aimed at Ohakim in an attempt to run from the place would have definitely run into the fire if he or any member of his family was in the House bearing in mind that him and family returned to Owerri morning before the incident. While subbing and speaking to onlookers and journalists, perhaps, the most pathetic aspect of his story was when he said, this is in fact, the only property I own in Owerri. All those talks that I have five buildings in Owerri to which I had refrained to respond were untrue. It was amazing at the multitude of Sympathisers who turned out to see things for themselves and sympathised with the Ex - Governor. Since then, it was not how the fire started that was the main public discourse but who or what could have begun the fire. Many people depend on their own interests and political persuasions. But in all, everybody was being careful in speculating about source of the fire outbreak, particularly as Ex - Governor confirmed that there was not electricity in the building and the generating set was not put on that particular fateful night. According to one igbo proverb, those who are wise beat carefully a drum made with cocoyams leave, while a stupid man plays it hard and breaks the cover. Similarly, Ghanaians have one which says, if you go to a place where the inhabitants are dancing with one leg, if you try to dance with your two legs, they would chop off one of your legs. While everybody was being very cautious and careful, unfortunately, Uche Onyeaguocha, a former member of the House of Representatives in his own reaction, opened his mouth too wide and unguided. He was reported to have said that Ikedi Ohakim purposely set his house ablaze in order to draw public sympathy. In addition, he insinuated that Ohakim is not new ...................Ohakim has a trail of burning because, according to Uche Onyeaguocha during Ohakims tenure, a part of Governors Lodge went ablaze and the committee set to unravel the cause of the fire did not make anything public. Of course, many people have lashed out at Uche Onyeaguocha. One of such severe critics was Dr. Vitalis Ajumbe, former Chairman of ANPP. in deed he took Uche Onyeaguocha to what Americans called laundry which enviably has deeper meaning that cleaners which has a general application. According to him, Uche Onyeaguocha goofed. Uche is one of my friends I respect but the way he has made himself so cheap of late is worrying me. How could he insinuate that Dr Ikedi Ohakim burnt his house to attract sympathy? Ajumbe explained that he was at the scene with Ohakim for more than 3hrs, admitted that he saw Ohakim cry as a baby and added, what comes from a mans mouth shows how measure he is. Careless statement do not make a person an achiever. To add his Voice, Publisher of whitepaper Newspaper and Special Assistant to Imo State Governor on Media Sam Onwuemeodo states, I beg to disagree with Hon Uche Onyeaguocha, the truth remains that it is difficult to fathom the political value Ohakim would gain by setting his house ablaze. Or, what the former Governor and his party would stand to gain by acting as such . Onyeaguochas claim becomes more deflated when one remembers that even the PDP people do not love Ohakim more than Rochas loves him. Although, many would believe that Ajumbe had spoken their minds on this issue, one could still not resist the attempt to say something about Uche Onyeaguochas careless and highly reprehensible out bust. Honestly, many Imo Citizens have been wondering what has become of Onyeaguocha of late. Could it be his appointment as a special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government Matters? Or could it be because of zeal and his decision to join the Owerri Senatorial Race? This reminds me of what one American black singer Charley Bright once said, low minded leaders when unmerited tribulation is accorded to them, they could even drop their heads in pride when waved at by a down trodden cloud. Further more, perhaps, there is one more adage which fixed the behaviour of Uche Onyeaguocha more appropriately, if a man sets a trap for a rabbit and his it catches a rat the man will will still over celebrate as if the trap has cut the rabbit or even an antelope. Could it be that this little appointment by Owelle Rochas Okorocha to Uche Onyeaguocha has no substance in truth and in application has swollen Uche Onyeaguochas head, hence he has off late become reckless, mouthy and licentious? Personally, I use to admire Onyeaguocha when he was a member of House Representatives. He used to display legislative brilliance, resourcefulness and was successful lawmaker. I remember at one time when I had the need to get some information and I called him, he was receptive and prompt. What impressed me the most was the use of his native dilates to communicating with me. Honestly, I am in a position to know, and I do know, that a couple of years ago, he was darling of the people in the political circle. Painfully enough, in the recent past since joining the Owelles government it appears that he has drunk a mixture of Aspirin, Para and Codin (APC) which intoxicate so easily misguided some Igbo leaders. Uche Onyeaguocha is alleged to be suing a seed of discord between His Excellency, Prince Eze Madumere, The Deputy Governor, Chief Jude Ejiogu, the Chief of Staff. In fact what Uche did by that statement was to hit a man who is down with a cudgel which is against Igbo tradition and culture. The only path of wisdom now for Uche is to apologise to Ikedi Ohakim the peoples popular Ikiri and the people of Imo state. A word is enough for a wise.
