BHAGWAD GITA IN SCHOOL SYLLABUS. The Haryana govt., as announced by the Education Minister, has decided to include some chapters of Bhagwad Gita in the school curriculum from the next academic session. The decision is unfortunate as it is against the spirit of a secular state. Bhagwad Gita is undoubtedly a great text and has inspired millions the world over. But there are other religious texts like Koran, Bible, Guru Granth Sahib etc. Since in a class room there are students belonging to different religions, they may demand some chapters of their religious texts to be included in syllabus.Moreover, if a religious text is patronized by the state, it loses it validity. In a secular country like India, students should be free to choose any religious book to read or act as agnostic or athiest bothered about the day to day problems of life. School education in Haryana is in a total mess. The Education Minister should apply his mind how to make the school system in Haryana meaningful,.Education should make young learners aware of the social reality around and creat a desire to shape it for the betterment of society.
