BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE OF MUSIC MINISTRY thot I share some interesting pointers from the Bible - (my last offering) 2. PRODUCTION OF MUSIC A song is a composition including music and words or a poetic composition. About one tenth (1/10) of the entire Bible is song, the foremost being the Psalms, The Song of Solomon and Lamentations. Music was an essential part of training in the schools of the prophets (1Sa 10:5; 19:19-24; 2Ki 3:15; 1Ch 25:6). There now arose also a class of professional singers (2Sa 19:35; Ec 2:8). The temple, however, was the great school of music. In the conducting of its services large bands of trained singers and players on instruments were constantly employed (2Sa 6:5; 1Ch 15:1-29; 16:1-43; 23:5; 25:1-6). David set aside 4000 Levites for musical service (1 Chronicles 23:4-5). Of these 288 were “trained in song to Jehovah, all experts” (1 Chronicles 25:7). The whole arrangement was under the direction of three accomplished musicians, Asaph = Psalms 50 and 73-83, Heman = Psalm 88, and Jeduthun = Psalms 39, 62, and 77. Solomon: 1 kings 4:32, Solomon spoke 3000 proverbs: and his songs were 1005, out of this songs the book of song of songs/the greatest song, is Solomons. According to 1 Kings 3:12 God said to Solomon, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee. 1 Kings 4:29 – 31 Solomon’s wisdom is compared to musicians. The time is now for the church to start writing songs. References to a “new song” appear not only in the Psalms but also in the writings of Isaiah and the apostle John (Psalms 33:3, 40:3, 96:1, 98:1, 144:9, 149:1, Isaiah 42:10, Revelation 5:9, 14:3). An examination of the context surrounding most occurrences of the expression “new song” reveals that such is sung because of a new development in Jehovah’s exercise of his universal sovereignty. As a musician if God is still real and involve in the affairs of your live, you must have a song.
