BIG BASH LEAGUE: HEAT ALIVE BY ONE Brisbane Heat 8/164 defeat the Melbourne Stars 7/163 (20 overs; Quiney 45, Faulkner 34, Wright 33; Duffield 3/28, Flintoff 2/41) by ONE RUN With Cameron White and Glenn Maxwell falling in the first over, the Melbourne Stars had an uphill battle from the very start. That became more apparent when Maxwell, amazingly, left a searing, fast inswinger from Ryan Duffield that clattered into his middle stump. See that dismissal here: cricket.au/video/video-glenn-maxwell-leaves-gets-bowled-big-bash-league-stars-v-heat/2014-12-28 Leaving social media and the crowd highly amused, and confused, it was left to Englishman Luke Wright and veteran David Hussey to build a resurrection partnership. It didnt work out, unfortunately, with Hussey well caught by Simon Milenko for 9. Luke Wright fell at 4/55, and the Stars looked down and out. Rob Quiney and James Faulkner began another rebuild, before a hamstring strain sent Quiney off. Everything was starting to click into place, before Andrew Freddie Flintoff had Faulkner caught at extra cover by the captain James Hopes. With the wickets falling, and Flintoff fired up, Quiney came back to the middle and took the burden of winning upon his shoulders. He clobbered two massive sixes, but just couldnt get it at the last gasp. The atmosphere of the Gabba crowd was absolutely electric, creating the perfect scene for a thrilling finish. Brisbane now go 1-1 this season, whilst the Stars slip to 0-3.
