BIG SWAMP NEWS: Good morning from the Big Swamp and I wanted to come on briefly and thank all of my friends and family plus Dans good friends from back home in Minnesota for making his birthday so special yesterday.. Wow that was a long sentence. lol He had a wonderful day and was overwhelmed with all of his birthday wishes plus calls he received.. We had a very busy day yesterday but a fun day it was..I was privilege to be a part of a ceremony yesterday for one of Robeson Countys best. A group of Fairmont and Littlefield High School past graduates put our heads together and planned a reception for Mr Leon McLean at the Presbyterian Church in Fairmont.. Leon received the highest North Carolina award, The Order of the Long Leaf Pine, which he so deserved.. He was my Teacher and Coach my freshman year at Littlefield and all the students absolutely adored him.. He went on to being a Principal at Garland High School and returned to Fairmont High as the Principal and then Superintendent for Fairmont City Schools. He has been an educator his entire life and the best..He and Janice have always been two special people in my life..It was a beautiful turnout and the best part is we pulled it over on him. He didnt have a clue what it was about until he arrived.. When it was over around 6 PM, I took the birthday boy out for dinner at Adelios and then home to relax. It was a very long day but such a fun day honoring two special men, Leon with his award and Dan on his birthday..So until next time from the Big Swamp........
