BIG THANK YOU TO DUNCAN SHIELDS AND RC WESLOWSKI and the poetry slammers of Cafe du Soleil for all their help in assisting us in promoting George Orwells 111th Birthday... all florists are equal, but some florists are more equal than others WE NEED POETS AND RANTERS FOR THIS, who wants a chance to win $50 and raise some funds for Megaphone? George Orwell, the dystopian writer of Animal Farm and 1984 fame, will be 111 years old on June 25th... his poignant view of human nature and its tragic leanings has influenced generations. So, on June 25th, at our store, Floral & Hardy Edible Plants and Gifts, we will be having a party for good ole George... we are inviting poets and writers to rant on for two minutes about what is wrong with the world... the public will get a chance to vote for the best rant for $10, the winner of the rant, will receive $50, and the rest of the funds will be given to Megaphone, the Street Newspaper, hopefully to continue on with their writing workshops at Simon Fraser... There will be pig themed cake and a heatfelt sing along of Beasts of England or Surrey, or Langley... written for just such an occasion, by Orwell himself...
