BIKE RIO! Ok, I cant wait any longer. Im privileged to announce the New BIKE RIO plan: BIKE RIO! Bike Rio Plan Purpose: Creating and linking Bike Lanes/Routes/Paths from all directions to RHC increasing safety of riders and encouraging a culture of bicycling as a mode of transportation to Rio Hondo College. Connecting Bike lanes/routes/paths: a. From North: (South El Monte & Unincorporated); Peck Road to RHC b. From South: (City of Whittier & Unincorporated): Beverly Blvd & Norwalk Blvd to RHC c. From North East: (Unincorporated & City of Industry) Workman Mill Road to RHC d. From West: (Pico Rivera & City of Industry) Rosehills Road & San Gabriel Rivera Park Way (River Path) to RHC. Key Points: 1. Design Map and Plan of proposed lanes/routes/paths with striping, delineating municipal and county jurisdictions, to Rio Hondo 2. Safe, secure and free bike lockers at Rio Plaza 3. Provide restrooms and hydration station at Rio Plaza for bike riders, and others, to refresh and transition to and from Rio Hondo. 4. Provide space, shade, and seating areas at Rio Plaza to layover and rest for bike riders, and others. 5. Encourage a culture of bike riding at Rio Hondo by providing college incentives and privileges. (Showers and clothes lockers in PE, hydration bottles/bladders, monthly free bike maintenance 6. Bike Festival each semester with vendors, services, and information. 7. Includes Goldline Extension 60 frwy Bike Path direct to RHC This has been a vision for over 20 years, in planning for 15, and part of bond for 10. Many have opposed it at Rio. It will be a tough board item vote.
