BILLION MILITARY EQUIPMENT LOAN. An Arrangement Between Nigeria and World Powers To Re-Equip Our Military. **No cash will be given to Nigeria as loan, but we will receive Training, Equipment, surveillance that will strengthen our Military. The news of that the Federal Government is planning to secure a loan of about $1billion has been a talking point of most Nigerians even when the details or modalities of the loan is still not clear to them. The genuine concerns and attacks hooves around their reasoning that the $1b is too much to spend on our military, others claimed that the money will be for the 2015 presidential campaign by President Jonathan It is beyond believe that these are the same people that have been complaining that our military is ill-equipped and lacks the expertise to fight terror. Even a governor of a state said that the islamist group based in his state, categorically stated that Boko Haram is better equipped than our military that are still using equipment bought before our independence and in civil war. According to the coordinator of the National Information Centre and director general of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr Mike Omeri, the proposed $1billion loan by the federal government would not be handed over to the Nigerian government in cash, saying it is an arrangement involving governments. He said the arrangement is common among world powers. “The loan request is not for the government of Nigeria to go and collect cash; it is a long term arrangement which most super powers of the world are known for. This long term process being put together by the government is to ensure that there is transparency in it and it is used for the purpose it is meant for,” he said. Dismissing fears that the loan, when secured would be misdirected from the purpose of securing it, Omeri said, “It is not just to fight Boko Haram; it is also to support the armed forces in terms of surveillance, training, etc. It is a long term facility that would involve government-to-government processes and I am not sure that any government will give out money to another government so that they could misdirect its usage.” Military hardwares are expensive and they are what we need to win the war on terror. According to Hope For Nigeria research, a B-2 Spirit Military aircraft is what Nigeria need to win Boko haram within a month and it cost about $2.4 billion. The B-2 is hard to detect via infrared, acoustic, electromagnetic, visual or radar signals. This stealth capability makes it able to attack enemy targets with less fear of retaliation. In use since 1993, the B-2 has been deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan. The loan we are talking about cannot even afford this plane, yet we expect the government to win the war against Boko Haram, a terror group that is now supported by Islamist groups around the world, in one day. - Hope For Nigeria.
