BILLONAIRS (comments) Much of the Rothschild wealth in Europe was confiscated or destroyed during WWII. High taxation including death duties also played a role. His Vienna palace was destroyed by Allied Bombings. Two world wars had a very negative effect on the extended family’s wealthy, as it did for the Warburgs and other wealthy Jewish families in Europe. I found it very interesting that Israel was very well represented on the list, with 17 members vs 30 for Canada, a major industrial country with more than four times the population. On a per capita basis, Israel is even better represented than the US (if my math is right). Unfortunately for Israel, the fastest growing part of its population are the very religious Haredi who, for the most part, do not believe in secular education or in participating in the military. They won’t be starting software companies. Since they earn very little money (other than government handouts) and have lots of children, they will eventually push the country into economic ruin.
