BIO: Jake Hyndman-Whittier started playing music at the age of 4 when his mother enrolled him in classical piano lessons. From that point on, music became a major influence in his life. Growing up, he performed in piano concerts at the popular Bandeen Hall Theatre in Lennoxville, Québec on the Bishop’s University campus. At the age of 16, he transitioned his years of musical expertise from the piano to the guitar. After taking lessons primarily rooted in blues and jazz, he began writing his own original songs. He soon found out that he had a gift for catchy pop melodies & rhythms, but knew that there was something that separated him from the many other artists. He began experimenting with electro-synths and layers of harmonic vocal tracks, and found his niche. By combining the likes of Owl City with those of Ed Sheeran, he has set himself apart to create his own alternative-pop soundscape with elaborate professional production. Prior to creating his popular project Something like Kites, Jake made a name for himself online via Youtube. His original channel contained over 45 covers of popular culture songs and gathered over 65,000 views worldwide. On May 4th, 2011, he received widespread recognition as the 16th “Most Viewed Canadian Artist of the Week” on the website’s charts. Since then, he has focused all of his efforts on creating original music and accompanying music videos. He currently has over 26 official music videos on his Youtube channel, gathering him over 100,000 views. He also has 3 self-released albums available (a 4th one in process), over 110,000 total followers on Twitter, 12 000 fans on his Facebook page and these numbers are growing substantially every day. Over the past 2 years, he has played shows regularly in the Eastern Townships of Quebec for crowds of over 500 people at a time such as; Homecoming & Frosh Week at Bishop’s University, Graduation at Bishop’s College School, Anti-Bullying week at Princess Elizabeth Elementary School, Georgeville Street Festival, etc. In the summer of 2012, he was the sole resident musician at the most popular restaurant-terrace in the area. Along with recording, producing, mixing, mastering, and marketing his own music, he also writes, directs, and stars in all of his music videos. Currently Jake holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a Concentration in General Management from Bishop’s University with outstanding credits in music, acting, photography, entrepreneurship and marketing. He now lives in Montréal, Québec, Canada where he continues passionately developing his career with consistent, daily hard work with the goal of playing Montreal’s Osheaga music festival in the summer of 2015. He is also the CEO of “Fly Away Recording + Media Studio.” More information here: weflyaway.co
