BIRD IN ENCLOSURE After falling in your hand, Oh! Mankind And on the initial love and care bestowed so fine My half dead confused soul suddenly rose in glee Anticipating that those hands might set me free But how --- Your caressing hands instead push me into an iron cage So small and suffocating that breathing I could hardly manage My flattering wings can’t bring me freedom in this confinement I’m now becoming a center for passing compliments Sitting in the most frequented place Mocked and insulted by your two legs race. How can I speak your tongue, Oh! Mankind Of your language so apart from mine You still provoke me to learn like a child When half my life I spent on the wild But if --- Your dialect I could speak and learn My freedom at least I could earn So amid the unfading wave of time I started learning human songs and rhymes. Oh! Mankind, you’ve teach me everything How to wish a guest and how to sing How to eat, drink and sleep, which are so unique In your language, which I can speak But will you not teach me How to be free? How to be free...? Dedicated to my Dad who left us last year....!
