BIRDMAN OR (THE UNEXPECTED VIRTUE OF IGNORANCE) Directed by Alejandro Gonzalez inarritu Starring Michael Keaton, Edward Norton, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts and Zach Galifianakis An unusual film about an actor called Riggan Thomas (played by Michael Keaton) who used to play a Superhero called “The Birdman” in films but is now opening his own Broadway show. Riggan wants to make it a successful theatre show and gets frustrated at not achieving perfection in his cast. Naomi Watts plays Lesley who manages to draw a character called Mike, played by Edward Norton, into appearing in Riggans show. There is a comical moment of struggle between Keaton and Norton not wearing much and quite playfully violent. Keaton gets so wound up in one scene that he trashes his dressing room only to be discovered by his agent, Jake (Played rather calmly by Zach Galifianakis) who looks at him in bewilderment and tells him to rest (lol). Riggan then storms out in just his pants and gets locked out of the backdoor to the theatre so has to walk around to the front - highly amusing classic scene. There are some magic moments in this film but it is a totally different film to what the trailer makes it out to be. Some may come across as boring or pretentious but stay with it as it a gem of a film. I can see Michael Keaton being nominated for an Oscar here and other acting awards no doubt. Definitely better than his Batman days. My favourite part of the film, though, has to be the Korean guy who manically reacts to Riggans announcement about Bird Man four, saying “Birdman Four! You did Bird Man Four?” #funny scene (watch the trailer). So another joyful film with a 4/5 from me because it is a different film that doesnt come along that often. https://youtube/watch?v=uJfLoE6hanc
