BISD Weekly Roundup Mid-Winter Break The BISD Board of Managers, Superintendent Butler, and the entire administrative team wishes you and your family a very safe and happy holiday season. (Students January 6th) BPSF Awards Students and Staff with over $5,000 in Grants The Beaumont Public Schools Foundation held its annual Fall Awards Caravan on Wednesday, December 10, 2014, surprising staff and students with grants. This years fall awards caravan awarded $5,536 to six BISD staff members and three students. The students and staff members were chosen based on grant applications submitted earlier in the semester. This years recipients were: Staff: Dawn Clary - Bingman Headstart Camille Briggs and Tanya Anderson - Ozen HS Rabelle Wade - Amelia Elem. Sharon Rigsby - Planetarium Joseph Cantu - Ozen HS Students: Dremar Washington, Bradley Thomas, and Micah Clark - South Park MS Since its founding, 21 years ago, the Foundation has awarded 317 staff members and students with a total of $205,915 worth of grants for innovative learning ideas. Thank you to the BPSF for the continued support of BISD schools! West Brook Band and Orchestra Students Selected for All-Region Congratulations to the 16 students from West Brook Band and Orchestra who have auditioned and earned their place in the 2014 All-Region Band. The All-Region Band will be performing at the Nederland Performing Arts Center in January. Out of those 16 students, 15 will be moving on in the audition process and will have the opportunity to audition for the All-State Band and Orchestra in January. US Coast Guard Honors Central and West Brook NJROTC The United States Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Port Arthur Executive Officer Commander Jacqueline Twomey and Lieutenant Junior Grade Amy Hockenberry presented Central and West Brook High School NJROTC units a plaque for their continued partnership. This honor was presented to both schools at the Board of Managers regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, December 18, 2014. Istation goes Home for the Holidays The holiday break will provide students a unique opportunity for BISD students this year. Each Beaumont ISD campus that uses Istation has an opportunity this holiday to win Istation gear for each student and their school. Parents can help out by having their students log into Istation at home to work on the individualized reading instruction, books, and writing. BISD 2015-16 Transfers // BISD solicitudes de transferencia The Beaumont Independent School District will begin accepting transfer requests beginning February 2, 2015. (Read More) BISD to Host Bike Rodeo Beaumont ISD will host the 2015 Beaumont Bike Rodeo on Saturday, February 28, 2015, in conjunction with the Beaumont Police Department, the Southeast Texas Hike and Bike Coalition, and the Dishman Elementary PTA. Ozen Varsity Boys Basketball Team Wins Cypress Hoops Invitational The Ozen High School varsity basketball team defeated Dallas Kimball 49-39 at the Cypress Hoops Invitational. The championship game took place on December 13, 2014 at the Berry Center in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. Jordan Hunter was presented the MVP award.
