BISTINEAU TASK FORCE MEETING: The meeting got off to a heated start with Pete Camp hammering Jeff Sibley from Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Dept. So much so that another Task Force member had to step in and get between them. They brought up this page and how it is helping get the word out. Hats off to Pete Camp because he didnt hold back any punches...he said he had much more but was told to stop badgering the witness. 1-The word is a complete drawdown is set for August 4 thru Dec 1 2014. The lake is at 1700 acres of Salvinia which is 200 over the draw down stage. 2- The state hired an Alabama company to spray the lake but the company has never sprayed for salvinia and they only budgeted for 1 man per air boat. 3- The task force has signs made that will be placed at all Public Boat Launches informing boaters of the danger of not cleaning their boats off after using the lake. 4-Leslie Quinn from Senator Vitters office was there to pledge help from their office. 5 - Weevils are being used in the lake right now but the LDWF guy is skeptical to give much more information. The panel was clearly upset with the LDWF people and Jeff Sibley had to take the heat. In my opinion the LDWF people dodge bullets at every turn they can...it was evident today. He batted down every question that made sense to me. I asked why not drain the lake and leave it down from the entire winter. He said because it would just come back if we didnt have a cold Winter. Well its going to come back anyway. But they act as if they are doing all they can when it is clearly held up in Baton Rouge. We all need to get Senator Robert Adley to the meeting...we are told he wont come but he needs to and get us some money for the weevil facility. Thank you!
