BLACK DAY FOR AMU COURT; MODI GOVERNMENT DISPLAYS ITS COMMUNAL - TopicsExpress

BLACK DAY FOR AMU COURT; MODI GOVERNMENT DISPLAYS ITS COMMUNAL AGENDA The Narendra Modi governments decision to appoint Kunwar Bharatendra, a BJP M.P. and key accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots, as a member of AMU Court is a slap in the face of the entire Alig fraternity. We were all first hand witness to the horrors of the Muzaffarnagar riots, how an entire community was ripped apart, how thousands of people were made refugees in their own land and their lives utterly destroyed. We also know that these riots were carefully planned and executed by the same party to create communal hatred for their divisive agenda, to which mr.M.P belonged. The entire Alig fraternity had stood by the people of Muzaffarnagar then and continues to do so today. It is intolerable to us that the perpetrators of these riots (who was even briefly arrested for his role in the riots in October 2013) has now been made a member of our highest decision making body. Along with Kunwar Bharatendra, BJP M.P.s Satish Gautam and Rajveer Singh, have also been made members of AMU Court. It is inexplicable why these particular parliamentarians were made members of an educational institution of national importance when they have displayed no previous interest in issues of higher education or academics. We believe that this step has been taken with the sole purpose of creating communal tension in AMU and soiling our longstanding traditions of harmony and brotherhood. We also believe that this issue is not limited to AMU, but a reflection of the larger aims of the communal fascist forces currently in power. We cannot stand idly by as the communal-fascist forces seek to enforce their agenda of hate. I have no hesitation in declaring that we will resist this move to the best of our abilities and that we consider all options to be open for our next course of action. We request the entire Alig fraternity and everyone concerned for the betterment of higher education in India to support us in our effort to resist the communal-fascist forces.
