*BLACK HISTORY FACT* Reverend Adam Clayton Powell, Sr., an African American clergyman was born on this date in 1865. Reverend Adam Powell Sr. was one of the most famous African American churchmen of his time. In 1888, Reverend Powell Sr. attended Virginia Union University. In 1908, he became the pastor of the Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York City. Reverend Adam Clayton Powell, Sr. was a captivating preacher and managed to increase the congregation of the Abyssinian Church substantially. Reverend Adam Clayton Powell Sr. built one of the first community recreation centers in Harlem.
