*BLACK HISTORY FACT* Samuel Riley Pierce, Jr., an African American lawyer was born on this date in 1922. Pierce Jr. graduated from Cornell University in 1947 and received a law degree from Cornell Law School in 1949. From 1953 to 1955, he was an assistant United States attorney in New York. From 1959 to 1960, Samuel Pierce Jr. served as a New York state judge. In 1961, he was named a partner in the law firm of Battle, Fowler, Stokes & Kheel. With the election of President Richard M.
