*BLACK HISTORY FACT* The Defense Department completed their desegregation by abolishing the last all black unit in the Armed Forces on this date in 1954. The desegregation of the armed forces did not occur overnight. Between 1948 and 1950, the Army in particular, resisted integration through bureaucratic tactics.
