*BLACK HISTORY FACT* The Rankin House was founded on this date in 1787. The Rankin House served as a pivotal point of shelter for many African American slaves escaping bondage before emancipation. The Rankin House, 60 miles South of Cincinnati, was one of the most important entry points on the Underground Railroad. After the Slave Act was passed, the Reverend John Rankin used his property to light the way for escaping slaves.
