BLACK HISTORY FACTS THAT HAPPEN ON THIS DATE OCTOBER 20TH: Rex Ingram, actor who starred as DeLawd in the film version of Green Pastures, was born on this date in 1895. John Merrick and six other Blacks co-organized the North Carolina Mutual and Provident Life Insurance Company in Durham, NC, on this date in 1898. The first Colored World Series, organized by Rube Foster, concluded in Kansas City, MO, on this date in 1924. The Kansas City Monarchs beat the Hillsdale Giants team from Darby, PA, five games to four. Some 60 southern Black leaders issued the Durham Manifesto on this date in 1942. It called for fundamental changes in race relations.
