BLACKPOOL are keeping tabs on out-of-favour Sunderland midfielder Cabral with a view to taking the former Basel man on loan. The Echo can confirm that the Championship side are looking at making a bold move for the 24-year-old, who only joined the Black Cats in July.Normally they would expect to have no chance of bringing in a Premier League footballer with Champions League and Europa League experience on his CV.But they have noted how swiftly he fell off Paolo Di Canio’s radar at the Stadium of Light before the Italian’s sacking and that he has also not played under interim head coach Kevin Ball either. And the Tangerines hope that if Cabral does not feature in Sunderland’s immediate plans they might get him on a temporary deal.Blackpool, managed by Paul Ince - who has former Sunderland midfielder Alex Rae as his first-team coach - made an excellent start to the season and briefly topped the table. But their squad has been stretched in recent weeks and they have taken only three points from the last 12 - falling back to sixth in the table, though they are level on points with fourth place. The loss of influential 35-year-old midfielder Barry Ferguson to injury last month was a real blow, with the former Scottish international expected to be sidelined for weeks with an ankle problem. And that’s where the club’s interest in Cabral comes in, with Ince believing a powerful box-to-box midfielder with physical presence is the key to them getting back up the table.
