BLAME THE DOCTOR ,COZ IT IS THE EASIEST THING TO DO!!!!! Chattisgarh Sterilization Tragedy: Please dont think I am supporting and trying to defend doctors just because I am one. Everyone in the medical field will agree that even in this particular instance the doctors role in the tragedy is very very limited or if you ask me , no role at all. For heavens sake it is a 10 minute procedure in the hands of house surgeons and much lesser in the hands of experienced hands. And it is usually done under a short acting anaesthetic agent like Ketamine. If at all any complications arise because of the doctors role or lack of skill or negligence it will happen during the procedure and not like the delayed ones here. The delayed complications here most probably are due to substandard medicines used and the whole world knows that doctors hardly have any say in government hospital procurements and tenders and their quality. Everything else is sensationalizing without understanding ground realities. You just cannot say the doctor spent hardly two minutes with every patient. In camps like these one patient will be in waiting ,one patient with lines being started ,one on the table being painted & draped ,one on another table with the procedure being done ,another one with dressing done & being revived and finally one being wheeled out. It is like a assembly line where the amount of time spent on each patient is about half an hour but around 12 patients are attended to every hour. And in bigger camps like this the number can easily be doubled. So getting 24 patients out in a hour does not mean that the doctors spent only two and half minutes per patient. The need for camps is part of the initiatives to take family planning to the door steps of the people. It is a policy thing and dont blame the doctors. And if you ask me , no doctor is interested to attend such camps. They are forced. I am sure this post will evoke strong responses and I will try my best to explain in my replies that it is not fair to target doctors here and especially target only the doctors with everybody else going scot free.
