BLEDISLOE BIFF - DO YOU REMEMBER? FOUR DAYS TO GO 1996 - In the first minute of the Brisbane test, Wallaby flanker Michael Brial hit Frank Bunce about 20 times in a furious assault. And nothing happened..? “The referee saw what happened,” All Black coach John Hart said. “Brial was punching Bunce uncontrollably. There was no possible excuse for what the player did, but the referee did nothing. That’s unacceptable.” Bunce, a man of honour who would later say that he kind of deserved some kind of attention for a cheap shot he’d thrown four years earlier, would only say: “I couldn’t believe it. He went right over the top.” 2004 - Keven Mealamu and Brendan Cannon decided they needed to have a one-on-one fight so everyone stood back and let them go for it. Mealamu, maybe the toughest man in world rugby, won on points. The amazing thing as Mealamu recalls: I remember going back and getting stitched up and he (Cannon) was asking how the family was and I said, oh yeah, good. I was on one table and he was getting stitched up on the other table. 2012 - Scott Higginbotham dropped a sly knee in Richie McCaws face and when the All Black skipper reacted, the Wallaby No 8 stuck the head in him...Higginbotham was given a four week ban by the citing officer. We have thrown in a couple of other skirmishes for fun... Bledisloe Cup...we love it. photosport.co.nz
