BLOCK THE BOAT Wednesday, 8 AM, Port of Tacoma - Port of Tacoma Road and Maxwell Way. CARPOOL INFORMATION BELOW Friday, time coming soon, Port of Seattle - Spokane St. Fishing Area & SW Spokane St. Bridge The Rachel Corrie Foundation joins organizations throughout the U.S. and world in endorsing west coast “Block the Boat” actions planned to stop Israel’s largest shipping company, from docking and unloading goods at terminals in Tacoma and Seattle this week. ZIM (pronounced “Tseem”) vessels are tentatively slated to arrive at the Port of Tacoma Wednesday, August 20th, and at the Port of Seattle Friday, August 22nd, to unload their goods. According to Bay Area activist Henry Noor writing for Mondoweiss late yesterday, “For the second day in a row, demonstrators succeeded on Sunday in preventing the unloading and loading of the Israeli ship Zim Piraeus at the Port of Oakland.” This week we have great opportunity to say “no” to Israeli ships in our local ports – “no” until fishermen in Gaza are free to sail in their waters; “no” until ships are able to unload in the Gaza harbor; “no” until students and those needing medical care are free to travel through Gaza crossings, and “no” until family members deprived of connection between the West Bank and Gaza have safe passage to one another. We also encourage you to link in to the actions Facebook event page so that you can find out the most updated information and stay connect with others who are going. That page can be found here: https://facebook/events/678819478876975/ CARPOOL INFORMATION: Carpools from Seattle to Tacoma will meet at 6th and Cherry at both 5 AM and 2:30 PM. In Olympia, a bus with capacity for 25 will depart promptly at 6:30 AM from Media Island, 816 Adams Street (across from the Olympia Timberland Library) and will make a stop at 6:40 AM at the Westside Shopping Center (Harrison & Division) in West Olympia for pick-up and prompt departure. We encourage those with cars/extra space to come to these locations as well if possible, so that if there is overflow from the bus we can make sure to get as many as people as possible to the port. For ongoing transportation updates from Olympia, please visit this Olympia transportation event page: https://facebook/events/321554474693638/?ref=br_tf If coming from other communities, please arrange for carpools! It is important to bring out as many people as possible. Everyone is welcome, young and old. Bring banners, signs, flags, flyers, sound systems, musical instruments, and friends. If you can’t blockade, you can participate in the supporting rallies — the more people there, the safer all will be and the greater the chance that longshore workers will refuse to unload the ship that day. If you are available during any period from August 20 through August 22, let the organizers know. Contact: blocktheboatnw@gmail
