BLOG Beware of disinformation Syria is a tragedy: tens of thousands of innocent victims are murdered and a country that was the heart of Arab civilization is being destroyed. Our heart is bleeding for the suffering of the Syrian people. Rage and sadness however should not be incompatible with a critical reading of the information we are fed with from the dominant media. These media are accusing the regime for all the crimes committed during the last year, especially the alleged use of chemical weapon. Much before the UN inquiry commission has landed in Damascus, it has become a common statement that there is a use of such weapon, and the Syrian army is the one that used it against its own population, including in Damascus. A bloody or even crazy dictatorship against a liberation movement made of angels? Let’s start with the so-call Syrian Liberation Army: it is not a united body – in fact there are fighting each other – and though there were originally in the SLA true Syrian democrats, most of them have left the movement that is more and more led by Muslim Fundamentalists, criminal gangs and foreign agents. The international powers that are supporting the SLA may quickly regret their choice, as it happened with el Qaida in Afghanistan… Then the figures: million victims say the media. Who have counted? Where? Killed by what weapon? And the chemical weapon: according to a recent report in Washington Post, in one occasion at least, chemical weapon was used by rebel units, not by the regime. In fact, we don’t know anything clear except the fact that, one again, we are the target of a major disinformation campaign. We all must have a critical reading of the information we are fed with. Certainly after the “mass destruction weapon” that served as a pretext for the US aggression against Iraq, and never existed: tens of millions of people throughout the planet were fooled by George W Bush and his cynical team of liars aiming at braking the huge anti-war movement, including in the USA. The ability to lie in a mass scale was in fact tested by the US propaganda machine at the end of the eighties, against the regime of Ceausescu in Romania. An alleged massacre was committed by the regime in the city of Timisoara, and the whole world was choked by the “images” of the massacre. This universal outrage was the beginning of the end of the Ceausescu dictatorship. The Timisoara massacre however never occurred, and the mass craves were a fake: Timisuara was a mere invention of the CIA and the Romanian opposition. Since then I have learn to be extremely skeptical with this kind of dramatic news, especially when it is well known that the US and their allies are looking for pretexts to launch their military aggression
