BLOOMFIELD HILLS HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI GROUP BHHS57 BHHS57 - MISS JEAN SITERLET - FACULTY / GIRLS COACH (September 16, 1925 - March 7, 2006) SITERLET JEAN E March 12, 2006 Age 80, of Williamston, Michigan, died March 7, 2006; born September 16, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan. Jean graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1948. She competed in athletics at EMU before there were varsity teams for women and went on to become an outstanding field hockey player after graduation. She played in 13 national tournaments and five international matches and played on the US team at the 1953 International Federation Championships held in England and also toured with that US squad. She was named to the first team in 1953 and selected for the U.S. field hockey team again in 1951, 1952, 1959, and 1960. In 1959-60 she was a WIBC Class B singles and all events champion in the city of Detroit Tournament,a Michigan and Oakland County Parks and Recreation senior golf champion in 1982, 1983 and 1984. She was named to the Great Lakes League field hockey first teams for 13 consecutive years from 1949-62 and inducted into the Michigan Amateur Sports Hall of Fame for field hockey in 1980. Jean spent 34 years as a teacher, coach and administrator at the Edison Institute in Dearborn and Bloomfield Hills. She was the recipient of Operation Pride Award given by the Michigan Association of Health, Physical Education and Recreation in 1981-82 and was given the Distinguished Service Award by the Board of Education in Bloomfield Hills in 1982. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Kathryn Moody and Suzanne Bates. Surviving are 2 brothers-in-law, Joseph Moody and Robert Bates; nieces, Kathie Jean and Judy Elrod, Karen, Sheryl, Donna, Connie, Eileen, Laura and Joanne; nephews, Joel Moody, David, John and Paul. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, March 18, 4 p.m. at the Wheatfield United Methodist Church, 520 Holt Moody, David, John and Paul. Memorial Services will be held Saturday,March 18, 4 p.m. at the Wheatfield United Methodist Church, 520 Holt Road, Williamston with the Rev. Sharon Osmond, officiating. Those desiring may make contributions to the Wheatfield United Methodist Church Camp Fund or the Capital Area Humane Society, 7095 W. Grand River Avenue, Lansing, MI 48906 in memory of Jean. The family is being served by the Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Homes, Williamston, Michigan.
