BMI View : Sarkozys public statement in favour of shale gas exploration reinforces our view that the current ban onhydraulic fracturing in France could be revisited by future administrations, given benefits to energy security, macro-economic realities and mid-term plans to reduce the proportion of energy derived from nuclear power. In a policy U-turn for the ex-President, Nicholas Sarkozy declared himself to be in favour of shale gas exploration in France, citing the positive effects this could have on the French economy.
