BNP on Sunday vowed to restore democracy and establish people’s voting right through a strong struggle together with people, reports UNB. “The government has imposed an autocratic rule on people like a heavy stone through holding a lopsided election. We vow to initiate a struggle for restoring democracy and establishing people’s voting right,” said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. The BNP spokesman made the vow while talking to reporters after placing wreaths led by party chairperson Khaleda Zia at the grave of party founder late president Ziaur Rahman’s grave at Sher-e- Bangla Nagar, marking his 78th birth anniversary. Fakhrul, however, refrained from answering to a volley of questions of the journalists about his ‘hide- and-seek’ role in the party. Several thousand leaders and activists thronged on the premises of Zia’s mazar to pay their respect to the party founder on the occasion of his birth anniversary. Many leaders and activists of the party and its associate bodies who had gone into hiding before the January 5 election were seen at the Zia’s mazar along with Khaleda. BNP and its associate bodies were also celebrating Zia’s birth anniversary holding various programmes.
