BNSF employees joined 300 volunteers on Oct. 15 to help build a new playground in San Bernardino, Calif. Before the playground was built, many children in nearby neighborhoods didn’t have access to a safe place to play outside. The BNSF Railway Foundation also donated $5,000 to The Home of Neighborly Service, where the playground is located. The event was organized by the City of San Bernardino, the Home of Neighborly Service, Dr Pepper Snapple Group and KaBOOM!, a national program to provide safe play spaces for children. Steven Wells, chief special agent, attended the event with four other BNSF employees from the Resource Protection team. “It was a great event,” said Wells. “A core tenet at BNSF is to give back to the community. Partnering with other companies and organizations from the area made the process easy. We showed up, and six hours later there is a fully-constructed playground.” John Macias, Dennis Burr, Scott Johnson and Lena Kent were among the employees who volunteered to set up the playground.
