BOGUS CALLER INCIDENTS – NEILSTON Detectives are appealing for information following two bogus caller incidents in Neilston. The first incident occurred around 1200 hours Tuesday 22 of October, when an elderly woman, at home in Kirktonfield Road, answered her door to a man who claimed he was a workman. The man entered her home and stayed for a short period of time. After he left the lady noticed that property was missing. The second incident happened the same day around 1220 hours in Hartfield Crescent when a man purporting to be a gardener, gained access to an elderly gentleman’s home, offering to carry out some work. When the male left, the 81 year-old householder noticed his wallet was missing. The suspect is described as white, in his late 30s – early 40s. He is around 5ft 10 – 6 ft in height with black hair. He was wearing a black jacket and black trousers. It’s not clear whether the same person carried out both crimes but officers are in the process of reviewing CCTV from the surrounding areas in an effort to glean more information. Detective Constable Gary Gallacher said: “Unfortunately, these two elderly people have been targeted by despicable individuals, cowards really preying on the vulnerability of the elderly and infirm. I am appealing to anyone who may have any knowledge or information about the crimes to get in touch with us, perhaps you noticed someone suspicious in the area, perhaps you saw something that seemed a little off, please do pass on any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem it could help in our investigation.” Anyone with information is asked to contact CID officers at Giffnock Police Office on the police non-emergency number, 101. Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
