BON HUSLA Born Mduduzi Bheka Mtakwende , Bon Husla is a Durban based wordsmith, Hip Hop promoter and Hip Hop Entrepreneur. His recognition in the game came in 2010 when he released his mixtape titled “Journey of a Thousand Miles”. Having shared stages with the likes of Abdus, Shon G, Beast and PRO Mtakwende’s passion for Hip Hop propelled him to explore the business side of the game. Like a true hustler, he found his corner and has been pushing his grind as a Hip Hop events creater/ promoter and ventured in street wear fashion under his company; Dubane State of Mind. With realising the need to educate and develop emerging Hip Hop artists in Kwa-Zulu Natal, Bon birthed Rep Yo Lokshin (RYL); an event which provides rappers the platform to perform and compete with their peers. Rappers battle until there is on man standing, the winner gets a hardcore cash prize making RYL the one of the most sought after Hip Hop events in KZN. Bon Husla has also assisted in promoting projects for cats such as Duncan (promoting his single “Khaya Lami”featuring Red Button, PRO and Zakwe) and Zakwe while promoting his Metro FM award nomination which he won. Bon Husla still continues to fly the SA Hip Hop flag high by creating events and platforms especially for emerging artist to get exposure and experience in performing the music industry as a whole. Event Description Duration Rep Yo Lokshin A battle platform which gives artist the opportunity to show their skills not just as artists but as performers too. RYL has an average of +- 500 participants. The winner gets a cash prize and media exposure. This event is funded by Bon’s Dubane State of Mind and Men of Thurst. All year round Ubuciko Bomlomo A weekly meeting of underground artists and poets that share the stage. Starts with an open mic set then main line-up which always features old skool artists. Weekly Dubane State of Mind FAMILY DAY Pushing the spirit of Ubuntu through Hip Hop, the DSoM Family Day is a charity event aimed at helping the needy especially orphaned children. The event help raises funds and encourages artists to donate what they can to the homes who are beneficiaries of proceeds made during this event. Annually Im A STAR – Clothing label A street wear label which not only promotes being comfortable with who you are but also serves as a job creating vehicle as it allows interested individuals to be part of street sales team that earns cash through sales. Bon Husla currently has two new projects in the pipeline; “The Talk of KZN(reality DVD) and his sophomore tape titled Run With Us or Run from Us” which features the likes of Young Cannibal, Archie, Lastee (B5) to mention a few.
