BONUS HIT #3 (JANUARY 25, 1967) is always MY choice. For this one, I look back at what couldve been? The year 1967 was shaping up to be a big year for Otis Redding. In June, he hit No. 1 as songwriter for the hit Respect by Aretha Franklin. And his night of performing at the Monterey Pop Festival in June sparked an interest that had people paying quite a bit of attention, thanks to him doing this song. It moved up from No. 26 to No. 25 on this day 48 years ago, peaking at this position. Sady, as most people know, Otis Redding died in a plane crash with members of the Bar-Kays on December 10, 1967. This performance was his very last on December 9, 1967 -- he was on the Cleveland, Ohio-based show Upbeat to do this one. Long, live Otis Redding!
