BOOKS FOR SCHOOLS and The Book Club Yesterday I met with Heather - TopicsExpress

BOOKS FOR SCHOOLS and The Book Club Yesterday I met with Heather and Millie from Cherry Orchard School as I had gone through our bookshelves and donated all the books my girls particularly loved when they were of primary age to the Books for Schools Project. I found nearly 40 books as I was only selecting those with strong female characters. Heather runs a successful Book Club at the school and every week is signing up more girls but she can only work within her budget. So donations like this are gratefully received. Of course in my box there was JK Rowling, Noel Streatfeild (the shoe books), Jacqueline Wilson as well as Sophie Kinsella and Jean Sasson (Daughters of Arabia) to name but a few... Thing is these books helped to form my girls’ character. Maybe without them my daughters would be meeker and milder and maybe with more of their like my daughters would be stronger and more determined that they have power, rights and a plethora of powerful role models to shine a light on their future path? I believe that we are what we read and if all we ingest are soaps about characters we can never aspire to or examples of women who do not rock our boats, maybe, just maybe we will we will be somehow weaker and more mediocre? As young people, how will we ever know what our life’s future intention is if we cannot paint a colourful collage of our future possibilities? Join us in the next book club..It’s been created by young people for young people and there are opportunities to listen as well as to speak. I believe that to really design our lives we need a paintbox full of glorious coulours. Whats in your pallet? Book Now (I never stop being amused by that line....) just so we can be sure of numbers...
