BOOM! BOOM! KPEII: ANOTHER DEFEAT STARES THE NPP IN THE FACE!!! Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is rated as one of the famous and powerful kings in Africa with an average net worth of between US$ 1.6 and US$2 billion according to Wikipedia. He is the occupant of the Golden Stool which according to history is the soul of the Asante Kingdom, and this brings him very close to the hearts of Asantes, and they will not trade him for anything. I listened to the livid voice of a woman who seems to be a member of the leading opposition party on an audio tape yesterday cursing and warning members of her political party for reprimanding the great king for dancing with President Mahama after His Excellency commissioned an expansion work at the Kumasi Airport few days ago. As soon as I listened to the tape I shed tears for the NPP whose destiny and electoral fortunes are in the hands of one region - Ashanti; and Im absolutely certain with my usual conviction that the witches and wizards pursing the NPP are ruthless and come unnoticed in camboo shoes so leaders and members of the party are not able to perceive ominous signals. Laa ilaaha illallah, castigating Asantehene and expecting majority of votes from his kingdom? Smh. One disturbing thing the woman said was that there has been underlying fear that If Nana Akufo-Addo becomes president he will not respect the great Otumfuo, and that recent developments have confirmed this fear. Eiiwoo, she prophesied that if that is the case, Nana Addo will become the president of Ghana in his dream. Folks, I perfectly understand where the woman is coming from, and I will explain. Asantes and Akyems are hereditary enemies, and it is feared by some Asantes that an Akyem President may not accord the Asantehene the needed recognition. At this point, I think a historical remembrance of what brought about this enmity would be necessary. In 1717, Osei Tutu I, a prominent Asante King was killed in a war against the Akyems. At the onset of the struggle, he had underestimated the Akyems because they were few in number, and so he went to battle without his usual magical amulets, and even left some of his body armor back in Kumasi, his capital. As he was crossing River Prah in a canoe, he was struck by bullets from Akyem snipers and sharpshooters, who were hiding in the dense treeline. Asantehene Osei Tutu I, died minutes after being shot. His last words were, Ankah me nim a (if only I knew), an apparent reference to his having underestimated the Akyems. Till the present day, the occupant of the Golden Stool is forbidden to cross River Prah. Do you see the coincidence? Akyems killed King Osei Tutu I, must an Akyem President disrespect King Osei Tutu II too? Chai, I heard some Asantes saying Torfiakwa, and they seem to mean business. I believe that was the reason why Nana Akufo-Addo did not become president even though he led in the first round in the 2008 presidential election. If you doubt me Im going to proof scientifically. In the 2000 presidential election, former President Kufour who is an Asante had 75.55% of the votes in the Ashanti Region, and 79.89% in the run-off which gives an average of 77.72%. In 2004, President Kufour again had 77% of the Ashanti Region votes. Interestingly, in 2008, Nana Addo had 72.53% in the main election and 74.39 in the run-off in the Ashanti Region, giving an average of 73.46%. In 2012, Nanas votes in the Ashanti Region plummeted to 70.86%. With the current developments and the pent-up feelings of some Asantes because their revered King has been ridiculed and demonized by some NPP activists, nobody should be surprised if Nana Akufo Addo hits the 60% mark as his votes in the Ashanti Region in 2016. In 2012, his 70.86% votes was for 1,531,152, therefore, losing about 10% means he is going to lose a whopping 153,000 plus votes in 2016 in the Ashanti Region alone. Dont forget there are other Asantes in the other regions who would want to contribute to the massacre. Im not sure they will forgive those who attempted to tarnish the image of the great King by spreading wicked lies that he was the medium through which bribe was given to the Supreme Court Judges to rule in favour of the NDC in the election petition case. With these in mind and the fact that the NPP flag bearer has started shunning his party Chairman and General Secretary, we dont need a prophet to tell us that another painful defeat is staring NPP in the face in 2016. I still believe that President Mahama is destined to lead Ghana to the promised land and that is why our love for him must be unrequited. We must help the young man from Bole to succeed. Hehehehe, some of you have an itching ear papa, I know you want to hear how many people had 500 million old cedis each in a recent tonaton deal. Kikikikiki, stay tuned, I shall return in an unbelievable style. Anthony Obeng Afrane.
