BOOM TIME CONDE 1946-47 Dr. Williams to begin practice in Conde next November. May 2 Dr. and Mrs. Mark Williams arrived in Conde the first of the week with medical equipment in the residence they recently purchased from Claud Ragels in the west part of the city. The residence will serve as the doctors office and residence, from which he will begin practice next Monday May 6th With the coming of Dr. and Mrs. Williams Conde will now have a Dr. we have long needed. John Claussen buys old garage building in Conde. May 9 th John (HI) Claussen recently purchased the old garaage building on East Main and is doing considerable remodeling the structure. Besides the above mentioned remodeling other places in the city are under going minor and major repairs. Guy Miller, Harry Place and Harry Veatch Have been busy with various repairs. Conde to have new cafe will . open next week May 9 th A new cafe will be opened next week in the McMillan building which was recently purchased by Helen and E. R. Place. The Board of Directors buys equipment for Hospital may 16th The board of Directors have purchased four hospital beds with inner spring mattresses. The bed will be used in Dr. Williams residence for emergency cases and confinement cases until the hospital itself is ready for occupancy Pierpont man Purchases Local Red Owl Store.Sep. 26th A deal was made recently whereby Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Nickolson became the new owners of the local red Owl Store. Having purchased the store from Harry Taylor The Nickosons took possesion Monday Morning. Mr. and Mrs. Nickoson extend a cordial invitation to become aquainted. Conde community Hospital Buys building remodeling the same soon. October 3rd The Conde community Association recently purchased the Parish Hall, formerly the Wettstein residence. This building in the near future will house the Community Hospital. Conde and community are indeed very fortunate in having an institution of This high caliber and a capable Dr. in the City. Boy Scouts troop organized in Conde. 16 are signed up; sponsered by the American Legion October 3rd Baber and beauty shop changes hands Jan 30 1947 A transaction took place this week whereby Mr. and Mrs. Paul Boullion disposed of their barber and beauty shop to Mr. and Mrs. Leon Snowden of Watertown. Paul who has barbered in Conde for the last 23 years will devote his time to the Conde Lockers which he opened about 2 years ago. John Deere Days was well attended Monday Jan. 9 1947 was well attended. there will be a free lunch at noon followed by a free movie at one thirty. Full line of 1947 machinery models will be on display. Municipal Building damaged by fire Sunday night Apr. 6th 1947 Fire believed by a short circuit the Community Theater in the Municipal Building here Sunday Night but was extinguished promptly by the local volunteer Conde Fire Department with no injury to the operator or the occupants. Johnnie Hynes manager stated that the equipment would be repaired and the loss was covered by insurance. Local Legion Post sponsors Junior Legion Baseball April 12th Conde is to have a junior legion team this year according to the information given us by the post commander E. G. Smith. R. L. Snyder local high school coach has consented to coach the team, and is understood by post officials that Wayne Cleveland has offered to assist in this capacity Neighbors help Farmers .Sow crop last week May 2 The oft-cited value of neighbor-ship was brought home to Clifford Iverson southeast of the city last week when a large number of neighbors and friends gathered at the Iversons farm to plant this years crop Mr. Iverson who was in Saint Lukes Hospital, Aberdeen was unable to attend this years planting himself so his friends pitched in to sew his crop. all volunteered their time and machinery. They included Bernard McPartland, Gene Martin, Bill Elving, George Prentice, Edwin Cunningham, Joe Thome, Keith Taylor, George and Roy Sheldon, John, Thomas and Evert Huber, Leo and Morice Huber, Barton Walters, Russell Sietz, Alva Liberty, Ralph Liberty, Ralph Liberty Jr. Roy Nash, Adolph Keonig, Stanley Grandpre, Fred Lederman, Ferd Dubbs, Earl and Glen Schultz, Henry Buising, Jasper Klapperich, Edward Lars and Elmer Insland, Lawrenence Liberty, Victor Depeel, Emerson Place, Arnold Lehna, Morris Zeck, Manoah Clemensen, Frank Cotes, Lawrence Barrie, Steve Heath, Glen White and John Gross. the folloeing ladies assisted Mrs. Iverson prepare food for the workers. Alma Huber, Hazel Imsland, Agnes White, Gussie Barrie, Laura Liberty, and Alta liberty. this last article demonstrates the vast changes in farming that have occurred in the past 60 some years. Over forty farmers and six farmers wives arrived to help in Cliffords misfortune. It looks like most of the helpers came from a small area around Cliffords farm. How large an area would it take now to produce over 40 farmers. But then now with the advancements of farming techniques it would only take two or three.
