BOONVILLE JEWELER & BUSINESSMAN, Ralph Hutchinson, was known as the forward observer who directed the mortar fire towards the enemy, when he served in World War II. Shortly after graduating from Lynnville High School, he found himself in France with the 78th Division. He was known as Hutch by everyone who knew him. He first saw combat in the Herdeon Forest in Germany. He was in combat there for 6 months. .This group held strong throughout the Capture of Homef with the help of Company F from the Second Batallion and The Regimental Antitank Company, He was later called back into combat for a second time during the Korean War. He became the First Sgt. for this operation, serving with the 311th Infantry, a great fighting team. For doing his job well, he earned many medals: The Bronze Star of Heroism, The European Defense Medal, The American Defense Medal & The Combat Infantry Badge.
