BOPHANI TAKES VEHICLE CAUGHT WITH PRE-MARKED BALLOT PAPERS TO AREA 30 INNOCENT MAWAYA A vehicle that was caught by Police here in the administrative capital, Lilongwe, carrying pre-marked ballots papers for former President Joyce Hilda Mtila Banda has been taken to the National Police Headquarters, we can reveal. This, on orders from Malawi Police Services Deputy Inspector General, Nelson Bophani. Earlier, Area 3 Police in Lilongwe had impounded the suspicious vehicle and arrested its driver after he was discovered to be carrying 19 ballot boxes containing pre-marked ballot papers of former President Joyce Hilda Mtila Banda. The vehicle in question is Nissan UD truck, grey in colour, carrying an election registration number TPE 1193. When he got arrested, the driver gave the Police his personal details as; Chipiliro Tobiasi, 31years old, Chewa by tribe, from Kapesi Village in TA Chilikumwendo in Dedza district. However, this afternoon the Deputy Inspector General of Police ordered that it be driven from the Police Station where it was being held to the national Police headquarters also known as Area 30. It is not known why the deputy police chief ordered to have the vehicle when the case was being handled at Police Station level. Malawis Deputy Police Inspector General Nelson Bophani was appointed by former President Joyce Hilda Mtila Banda in 2013 and he is seen to be a close ally of the former country leader. He is reported to have been the big hand behind the covering up of the Cashgate scandals and Paul Mphwiyos exit from the country
