BORNO WILL NOT BOW FOR THESE VOWS - Somehow, President Jonathan - TopicsExpress

BORNO WILL NOT BOW FOR THESE VOWS - Somehow, President Jonathan is convinced Nigerians are hopelessly empty of options hence, MUST hang on to him for our corporate survival. In continuation of his I VOW TO DO MORE campaign crusade which landed in Maiduguri yesterday, the President promised to do, in few months what he couldnt in 5 years. The highest point of the presidential sermon reads: “The Boko Haram problem is what I thought we would have ended long ago but may be external influence or interest is affecting us. I am assuring you however that it won’t take us more than a few months to end this insurgency and restore peace in Borno. I admire the Presidents gusto for daring to touch the Chibok girls issue after almost a year of pretense and insensitive exhibition of non challant attitude to the flight of the Chibok girls/parents, Borno State and the NEast in general. Perhaps, the President need to be reminded of the enormous energy wasted to convince him Chibok was not a Nollywood production. Even more irritating, the President may need to be reminded of the reputable voices that came together and formed the #bringbackourgirls movement which solidarity songs where heard across the globe yet, went unheard in Aso Rock villa few meters away from the permanent camp of the movement. Its obvious the President want to have Nigerians eternally vacillating between his thoughts and (in)actions on one hand, and his glib assurances on the other. For the 5 years President Jonathan has been on the job, no one is left in doubt about his inability and clear intention to restore sanity back into Northern Nigeria. His lackadaisical attitude to the flight of the region only helped in building an apathetic presidential image on which, expectedly Nigerians built believable and unbelievable theories which the President may have to battle for the rest of his days in the villa. With a population of 170 million people, one is mesmerized by the presidential assumption that Nigerians could manage a trial and error President even when there are more visibly competent options available. Perhaps, the President need to be reminded that leading a nation is not a learn on job business just as assurances are only meaningful when backed by well designed manifestos and patriotic intention to implement. The last 5 years proved President Jonathans disability in this regard. Its easy for the President to assure the people of Maiduguri that it won’t take us more than a few months to end this insurgency and restore peace in Borno but, certainly it will take him to the end of eternity explaining why he failed to do so in 5 years. Not only that, he may have to explain why the situation keep deteriorating by the day. President Jonathan may need to publicly tell Nigerians how many local governments we still have down from the 774 he inherited five years ago. Large chunk of Nigeria kept being conceded to insurgents almost at the same rate the President make his occasional assurances, and with same ease too. Why should anybody believe the few months presidential restoration promise? Its highly insensitive for the President and his campaign managers to hit Maiduguri with colorful pavilions emblazoned with the I VOW TO DO MORE message. Vowing to do more of what? Vowing to make it more dangerous than what it is today? Perhaps the President need to be reminded that already Borno is dangerous enough to scare him from visiting Chibok. Tanko Yakasai once told Nigerians the President refused to visit Chibok for fear of his life and we have no reason not to believe him despite his senility and mental disability because the President did nothing to disprove him. Borno people will not like to go a step above searching for Chibok girls by searching for the whole of Borno state; and thats precisely where the President is heading by vowing to do more. Logically, if the President could not find the 200+ Chibok girls lost to a monster, how could he find the local governments, cities and villages lost to the same monster? The President should have promised to reverse what he did to the state rather than vow to do more even if glibly. His chances for a more respectable margin of defeat could have been better.
