BOTH PF AND UPND ARE TRIBAL PARTIES This election has been very tribal whether people want to acknowledge it or pretend. I have personally been put in a place where i start feeling maybe i need to start defending my own tribe. The temptation has been high but i find no sense in that. I have lost very dear friends because they have taken a tribal line and want me to tag along. God created me bigger than a limited tribal being. My job has equally put me in a position where sometimes i have to quarrel with my own producers because they want to be partisan. This has been the most divisive election ever. I have also friends who a few months ago never agreed with the PF government on anything but since EL took over PF, they have become darlings of the party and are willing to pay with their life defending the PF. I hate to break this to you but the two major political parties, PF and UPND are both TRIBAL and DIVISIVE. I can back my statements with facts here. Rupiah Banda like all of us know, understands and believes deep inside his heart that HH is the better presidential candidate for this particular phase of our national economical development. Then why did he endorse EL? Simple he knows his tribes man will forgive his sins and might even go further and give him a job. Thats not enough? Talk about Dora, how about Fr. Frank Bwalya? these are all facts. On the other hand as dignified as VJ has been all along, it is only logical for him to support the best candidate at the moment, more so if that candidate is my tribes mate. Munkombwe is the icing on the cake and though most people hate him, i love him for his frankness. He speaks whats in his heart and that of many other cowards who want to pretend they dont feel like that. To further my argument i want you to also look at the endorsements from the Chiefs both in Bemba land and Tonga land, and am using the words Tonga and Bemba very loosely. What pains me as a by-stander is that the political leaders in both camps have welcomed these tribalists simply because politics is a game of numbers. Am not naive so dont tell me everyone in these political parties are tribal, no, there are genuine people in PF who believe in the ideals of the PF and there are also people in the UPND who believe genuinely in the ideals of the UPND. True leadership requires you to understand what you stand for and the vision you have for the larger society which you should share with society. By allowing selfish individuals like Banda and Munkombwe both HH and EL erodes the confidence i have in them as a young person. We should never be too desperate to win an election. Both individuals we are talking about are suppose to be statesmen and not mere cadres. the difference between a politician and a statesman is that a politician looks forward to the next elections. He identifies those with potential to challenge him and eliminates them while a statesman looks to the next generation and identifies those with potential and mentors and groom them. King Pharaoh was a politician, Daniel was a statesman. Banda and Munkombwe dont qualify in my books to be statesmen and hence those who fall in their traps are as good as the two. I am a very disappointed Zambian because i know the best candidate will not emerge winner in this election simply because we have allowed tribe to divide us. We have also allowed our cadres to spread hate speech. We will surely reap from the evil seed we have sworn. I must say for the first time in my short life, am genuinely concerned and even scared of post election violence. POSTERITY WILL JUDGE ALL OF US HARSHLY.
