BOTSWANA LOSING BILLIONS TO CORRUPTION AND TAX EVASION Botswana is said to be losing billions of pula to corruption and tax evasion annually. According to the Global Financial Integrity Illicit Financial Flows report, Botswana is losing up to P10 billion per year. This is said to be exacerbated by the fact that the country has long abolished exchange controls. The report states that illicit financial flows are the most damaging economic problem plaguing the world’s developing and emerging economies. The researchers’ say Botswana also struggles with lack of funds to deal with problems of high unemployment, declining diamond revenues and Aids scourge. The report urged policy makers to address illicit financial activities.
