BOWLING IN VEEDERSBURG...Before posting I had to verify the history surrounding this building. Picture 1-on South Main was the one in question. I certainly didnt want to rely on a memory I had as a young 6 or 7 year old girl growing up in the 50s. But I did remember a bowling alley in this building. The late Jim Lowry owned or operated it. I remembered going there with my dad. I also remembered Jims twins Fred & Stella Lowry, my friends and our neighbors, being there often. We would set up the duckpins. Being kids we loved to do it!! Picture 2-3 (Found these pictures online, do not know where these were taken, but thought maybe our bowling alley might have looked like this). I dont remember how many alleys there were in the building. I decided to check with some Veedersburg residents to see if my memory was correct. Thanks to Jeannie Richey and her dad, Gene Groce, they were able to verify the bowling alley. So glad to know I didnt imagine it or dream it! Since then the building has been occupied by The Veedersburg License Branch, Keelings Internet Service, Picture 4-The Last Chapter Book store, Picture 5- is a mural painted on the side of the building and the building is now occupied by a Preschool. Picture 6- is a newly painted mural on side of this same building. While researching this building I was told by two people there was another bowling alley in town beside this one. I didnt know anything about the other one. If anyone has dates, where it was located and who owned or operated it please share with the group. I would be interested in hearing about both if anyone has any information.
