***BOXING DAY SALE*** at Clubsport started on 1st April, 1983 when we first opened our doors at 39, Gray Street, Broughty Ferry. Cos since that day Ive always believed in performance not profit. Illustration follows... On Xmas eve a promising young cricketer from Falkland came in with his mum. The bat hed bought last season was too heavy according to his colleagues. I had to agree, it was a harrow size and it was nearly 2lb 7oz on the scales, a tad heavy for a 12-y-o. The boy & his mum were happy to take away a chosen lighter bat & keep the first bat for the future. I was to double discount the replacement bat, sympathising with his predicament. Then I noticed (I should have seen it earlier) that it wasnt the original grip on his heavyish harrow, it was a second grip on top of the original. One of his mates had suggested putting on an extra grip. This is a bit of a fad which Ive never been a fan of so I suggested removing it to let him try it up with the original single grip. Result! Two ounces off the weight, balance restored, pick-up excellent, no need for another bat, the bat was in fine condition & had a lovely ping. Happy customers felt obliged to purchase a bottle of Owzat bat oil (the best) & a brand spanking new cherry for £13 so happy retailer too. Xmas felt even better. Performance not profit. (This has been another heartwarming story from the Clubsport Chronicles and I apologise if Im a Boxing Day bore!) :)
