BOYCOTTING AND BEING A PARENT; My daughter was going shopping - TopicsExpress

BOYCOTTING AND BEING A PARENT; My daughter was going shopping with her friend last week. They usually stopped at Mc Donalds for a treat, but during the past two months I am proud to say all my family have been boycotting Israeli goods and large multi national corporations that heavily sponsor the Israeli military or illegal settlements. She asked, with the ceasefire now holding and with further peace talks to end the siege, was it ok to end the Boycott? I explained that it was as important as ever- if not indeed more so- to maintain our resolve. I told her about the 3 bloody invasions in the past 6 years, and how it will all happen again if we turn away now. I explained that we can stop another bloody massacre, not by attacking Israel with rockets, guns or bombs, but just by refusing to trade in goods or let our money be used to fund more illegal settlements. She agreed and understood. Children and young people have a deep and untarnished sense of right and wrong. We can learn a lot from them. She will always remember this period in international affairs and how everyone has a part to play, just as I recall at her age the Boycott of South African goods that brought Apartheid to an end. Dont underestimate the power of your purse. Keep up the Boycott.
