BRAHMARETTES ADVANCE TO STATE TOURNAMENT; BRAHMAS IN REGIONAL FINALS By KEITH MAGEE kmagee@journal-spectator The East Bernard softball and baseball teams keep on winning, as the Brahmarettes have advanced to the state softball tournament while the Brahmas are in the regional finals. The No. 3-state ranked Brahmarettes defeated the No. 4 team, Natalia, in a one-game playoff, 7-1, on Friday night to advance to the Class 2A state tournament. East Bernard, 25-11 on the season, will face Hawley, undefeated at 35-0, at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Red and Charline McCombs Field on the University of Texas campus in Austin. In the other semifinal game, Crawford (33-1-1) faces Lone Star (28-5) at 6 p.m. The two winners will advance to the state championship game, which will be played at 6 p.m. Thursday. Meanwhile, the Brahmas baseball team swept Banquete, winning 9-4 on Thursday and 3-1 on Saturday to advance to the Class 2A regional finals. Details on the Brahmas’ next opponent and game schedule will be posted as soon as it becomes available.
