BREAKING - Another historic landmark near Music Row will soon be DEMOLISHED. Located at 1922 Broadway near Music Row, the 105-year old house is best known as the former studio and retail store of noted fashion designer Manuel Cuevas who operated here from 1988-2013. The current owner Land Development, Inc. of Brentwood purchased the Queen Anne-style building from Manuel in March 2013 for $1.1 million and pulled a demo permit on December 29, 2014. Future plans for the property are unknown at this time. The building is not listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is not protected by conservation zoning. A native of Mexico, Manuel Cuevas is a famous fashion designer who worked in Los Angeles from 1951-1988 when he relocated to Nashville. He has designed for John Wayne, Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Elton John, Loretta Lynn, George Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Dwight Eisenhower, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton and countless other celebrities and notable figures. Manuel used the main floor as his retail shop and showroom and the other three floors as work spaces. In 2013, he opened a new retail space at 800 Broadway in downtown Nashville. Constructed around 1910, the American Legion owned the building from 1948-1986. These photos were taken by Robbie Jones a few hours ago.
