BREAKING: China has pulled the plug on GMO Bt rice and GMO corn. Safety certificates expired on these experimental crops and will not be renewed. China was expected to commercialize GMO Bt rice in the near future but has now taken a U turn. It was recently reported that a Chinese university conducted illegal trials of Bt rice on students who then experienced higher rates of leukemia. Amid rising public concerns around safety and loopholes in assessing and monitoring GM research, GMO Bt rice is effectively dead and buried.
