Egyptian security forces have arrested a provincial leader of the Muslim Brotherhood in the Upper Egyptian province of Sohag. Homeland Security officers arrested Ashraf Mahmoud Rashwan for alleged involvement in attacks on churches and police stations, a security source told Anadolu Agency. Egyptian authorities have unleashed a massive crackdown on leading Muslim Brotherhood members since the armys ouster of elected president Mohamed Morsi. Hundreds of the groups high and mid-ranking figures, topped by supreme leader Mohamed Badie and deputies Khairat al-Shater and Rashad Bayoumi, are now in detention. All Brotherhood members face charges of inciting violence and murder, allegations they dismiss as politically motivated.
